Juan Carlos Beamín got his PhD at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Santiago  (2015). Then, was post-doc  at  Universidad de Valparaíso. Currently, he woks at Centro de la Comunicación de las Ciencias of Universidad Autónoma.

His mainresearch projects are related to the search and characterization of very low mass stars and brown dwarf stars in the solar neighborhood. Using observations from VISTA-VVV and WISE, he has characterized a sample including its spectral type, radial velocities and parallax. Also, Juan Carlos is interested int the very low mass binary stars study.
